How are you feeling now that we are with our creative master project? Why?
I am sad that our project has ended because I enjoyed it so much! I feel like I really learned about myself in this project along with really challenging myself on something new that I am not very good at. Sewing has always been something more complicated for me to follow through with but I really wanted to go outside the box for this project. I also feel like the out come of this project was very beneficial for me because I grew in speaking spanish along with writing spanish for my digital piece. What went well? What could have gone better? For next time, how can we avoid the bad and improve the good? As I said what well with this project was that I felt very engaged in the work I was doing and my focus was always on “how can I improve my work for exhibition?” Something that could have gone better was my time management of the project because I feel like how I scheduled my digital piece and the actual sewing of my project was a little rushed. How I can improve is for next time actually writing a physical calendar where I can write pick up fabric, creation of digital piece, and sewing the fabric. What were some memorable moments of the evening? Were you able to present in Spanish? How did it go? I got lots of questions throughout the night and was able to answer them thoroughly and with talking pretty fluently in spanish to people I didn’t know. Another moment I really enjoyed was when my parents came and saw what I had created for the project and I got to present my whole project to them which was very fun to do. I you could give yourself a fair evaluation, what would you say about your exhibition and why? I would evaluate myself with as being pretty much prepared throughout the entire project and really pushing myself to do something challenging and outside the box with getting inspiration from my masters art piece with sewing it which I am not very familiar with. I also was prepared with my exhibition, taking the time to work on my fluency for my spanish piece and getting to the exhibition 30 minutes early to set up all my pieces and the digital piece. Throughout this project I was prepared with my next goal or task that I had to do with my digital piece or my fashion piece, along with challenging myself with creating a whole website explaining the project, my process, and my spanish-speaking artist and I also challenged myself with the fashion piece in sewing something I had never really done before.
This project was short yet sweet in the sense that I was able to in the small amount of time we had for this project able to learn so much about issues that affect San Diego county in a really big way and need more awareness to it! We then went to Chicano Park to present about our issues in Spanish then walk around the park to take in the beautiful work! Here are some pictures with some of my peers at Las Cautros Miltas and a mural at Chicano Park! Here is some info about our issue: What does water pollution in San Diego look like? As you can see in the higher regions of southern California or more widely know as San Diego, that the water quality is “good” and the majority is “fair” or “marginal” which with a population of 1.42 million people could be much better. According to a beach pollution report done by Heal the Bay’s 28th annual Beach Report Card, “released a "Beach Bummer List" that gave La Jolla Cove a "D" grade. It was the fifth most polluted beach in California. They rate beaches based on their water quality.” The number one from this report was “ Poche Beach at ocean outlet, San Clemente This O.C. site is the single most polluted beach in the state, according to the report. It’s a “point zero” site, meaning weekly samples are taken directly where a stream, creek or storm drain discharges to the sea. Elevated pollution from Poche Creek is no doubt leading to bacterial exceedances.” When San Diego people tallied up how much trash they collected from beaches in San Diego in 2014, they found, a lot of plastic. In fact, volunteers removed 23,477 pieces of plastic and 17,438 pieces of plastic foam. Yet that pollution was nothing compared to by the 75,069 cigarette butts on our beaches, according to a report released Monday by San Diego Coastkeeper and the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Tragically, in 2014, more than 7,000 volunteers picked up “207,804 pieces of trash weighing total of 10,455 pounds.” This translates to English as: "After reading his story about his struggles with criticism from other people and not really succeeding in the line of art it inspired me to want to create something in his honor to show inspired his work made me. His struggles were something I also struggled with in volleyball when I first started. When I first started I wasn't very good and when I decided I wanted to play in college the level of competition rose greatly and at one point was very intimidating to me. Yet, I didn't let that stop me from a dream that I have and I chose to start small and work with the basics while gradually getting better mentally and physically." The creative masters project is about learning the cultural and historical influences of Spanish-speaking artists, inventors, lawyers, doctors, athletes or any one who inspires us to make art! Through this project I have learned what really drove the Spanish artist El Greco to create his marvelous paintings, one of them being The Burial Of The Count Of which I created art based around.
Here are some pictures from my final piece and Exhibition! In the Spanish section of this project we learned about the Mayans and the Aztecs and why their population died off in that time period. This project was about looking at different world-wide historical events and finding out what might have happened if it turned out a different way (ex. What if Hitler won the war?). My topic was the black bubonic plague, in which we were looking at "What if the black plague had wiped out all of Europe?" As someone who really knew nothing about this topic, it was very interesting to learn how such an epidemic could have not only changed the physical structure of Europe (Spain being one of the countries) but the views on different topic such a Racism. If the Black Plague had wiped out of all Europe then a big event that would have never occurred would be the slave trade and colonization of the U.S by the Spanish, meaning that the Native American would still have a large majority of the country and even some into Canada expanding habits of the Native American. Here are some photos from this project!
This was our first project of the semester for Spanish which was so fun! It was a good way to see how we were with our conversation skills and our fluency in the Spanish language. Here is a snippet of my dialogue!
