I starred at the hanging piece of art from above, thinking, I created this. I am a part of something beautiful and extraordinary unlike anything else. Though before this image appeared in my head, a smaller version (a prototype) of it had to be created. My group for the prototype wanted to doing something nobody else was doing with the idea for our chandelier, by this we created the shape of a star sense we were talking about the universe. Next, we decided to hang it by each individual star on each other and paint it with a timeline, starting from the big bang all the way to modern humans. Once we pitch our idea, the final decision for the shape of the chandelier was decided and we were put into ring groups based on what we had said we were interested in. I love history (history of man), so chose to be a part of the Modern Human ring. After being place into the groups we then planned out a timeline of historic events that occur, and did research in groups on these specific events. I thought it would be interesting to learn something new, so I research Ancient Egypt. Based on some of the image ideas we wanted to put into the art going on our ring, I did the back round on the inspiration for the images (such as: the pyramids and hieroglyphics). I learned a lot about the religion that was tied into both of these things and how it influenced different growing religions around the world many centuries later. During this process a lot of my group didn't really know what they wanted to do (what they were interested in learning about) and what they should research. So, I created a list of possible events/times in the history of man that people in my group could research, then I made a list of things to be researched for each one. This prompted my fellow group mates to have a starting point for their research. In this experience I learned a lot about my leadership skills as creating small tasks for members in my group a making sure people had something to do for the ring and knowing when to allow someone else the opportunity to do the same, so I could then learn from what their habits of leadership are. While we were working on the the construction of the ring I decided that painting Ancient Egypt wasn't really my thing, so I decided to take any interest in a different direction, which was ¨The 20s¨. For my section if the ring timeline I painted a poster of a musical in the 20s era, so I made it very colorful and vibrant. I also painted as an additional part to my section a picture of a boy with a sign asking for a job to pay for food, it was taken during the depression era so the colors looked dull and dark to give it more of a sad effect. I also thought a creative way to make our ring more eye catching was if we added lights to it in the images! So, we planned out where we wanted our hole for the lights then drilled them. It didn't really take me long to finish that so what I did after was I helped other people in my group paint their sections so we could finish on time. I felt that my personal growth was having to learn that I couldn't do a million tasks without getting stressed and following that was I had to worry about myself and what I needed to accomplish rather than worry what the rest of my group was doing. I learned this when we were doing the last of our painting and realized that one of the art pieces was on the wrong side on the ring board, so we needed all the help we could get. Though, we only got 3 of our other group-mates to help finish the last part and it made me irradiated because they were messing around, not helping. I soon came to realize I could only focus on myself and the work that I was assigned not if they weren't helping because that´s up to them. Some new skills that were a part of the project was collaboration and brainstorming. You really had to collaborate with the rest of your group do get everything done on time and efficiently because in order for everyone to be on the same page of what work needed to be done you had to really check in with the rest of your group constantly. Design thinking was also really important because you want your work to be unique and in order to do that you have to have multiple ideas not just one to start with. In all honestly, if we just would have started with one idea then we would have had a very ordinary ring but sense we used both brainstorming to collect ideas and collaboration to combined ideas our ring turned out like a one of a kind.

The words I wrote no longer were just words on a paper, they were a story. A story that later on became the only thing that occupied the empty space in my mind, it became a part of me. Intellect is filled with the sweat of hard endless writing sessions and the heart of my passion to write stories like it. This piece of art is one of my most prized possession and the process was not an easy journey.
The very beginning of this project looked like multiple ideas brainstormed from my group and I. After deciding what our main idea was going to be about, I had to create the chunks of the story and I did this using storyboard note cards. The note cards that had my overall scenes that made up the story were then filled in by gaps with of small details. Writing the first draft was the most difficult part because it was extremely long, which I anticipated but still was not prepared for. Once it was complete I then immediately got critique because a story is not perfect until a second pair of eyes has seen it. I got many people to help with this long process of editing my story to the best it could be and in return I did the same for them. A lot of the editing was cutting the fat and fixing some of the grammatical errors. The last part my story process was put in with the preface and illustrations from the other members in my group. I had a lot of challenges throughout the project and it all began with the story. I already had an idea from weeks previously and just had to convince the rest of my group to be on the same page. That didn't happen. We argued a lot about what our story was going to be and having being set to an idea I stuck to it throughout the days of arguments. In the end we came to a agreement about a idea, but something at the end was really how to comprise. I learned that in order to receive something in the future I must first sacrifice something in the present. It was difficult at first, but I'm so glad we all came to an idea that everyone liked. After deciding this, I was a little stuck on how I was going to start the story. Luckily, we had a publisher came and gave us critique throughout the process of writing the stories. She told me that having action told through dialogue would be a better approach than doing an "info dump", so I started out with the main character doing an action but telling what she was doing. This really helped me throughout the story because it kept me from describing too much about different scenes. I learned many things, from different writing techniques to learning to improve weaknesses about myself. This project taught me a lot about overcoming challenges that really affected the project and just overall a reminder of how much I love to write. This story is one of my best writing pieces I have every done and I am very proud of the finished product. |
